2014 Amy’s Otway Classic: Photo Gallery

Queensland duo Ellen Skerritt and Ruth Corset (Holden Women?s Cycling) have dominated the inaugural Amy?s Otway Classic, held on Sunday in conjunction with the Amy Gillett Foundation?s Wiggle Amy?s Gran Fondo in Lorne.. Skerritt launched a blistering attack 40 kilometres into the 109 kilometre race along the Great Ocean Road, and gained a small gap before teammate and Subaru National Road Series leader Corset joined her. The pair continued to ride at an unmatchable pace, contesting the tough, 10km Skenes Creek climb unchallenged and gaining almost five minutes on the peloton. A ladies agreement saw 19-year-old Skerritt cross the line ahead of Corset, over three minutes in front of a splintered peloton. Liv/Giant?s Rebecca Locke climbed to third place. In her first Subaru National Road Series event since recovering from Deep Vein Thrombosis, Chloe McConville (Jayco/Apollo/VIS) featured in both intermediate sprints and finished in 21st place. Almost 5, 000 riders took to the Great Ocean Road for Amy?s Gran Fondo, held in memory of Australian cycling team member Amy Gillett, who tragically lost her life while training in Germany in 2005 when hit by a car. The Subaru National Road Series continues on September 19 with the men and women’s National Capital Tour. Images copyright Con Chronis
