After taking on the world in 2014,?Australia?s only Professional Continental Team?Drapac Pro Cycling?return home for the iconic Tour of Tasmania, part of the?Subaru National Road Series. In their first year as a Pro Continental outfit, Drapac contested the Santos Tour Down Under, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, and the Tour of Utah.? They return to Australia with next week?s Tour of Tasmania and October’s Melbourne to Warrnambool in their sights. Competing in just their second Subaru NRS of 2014, the Drapac outfit will feature four local Tasmanians including former professional riders Wesley Sulzberger and brother Bernard, William Clarke, and Hobart?s Jai Crawford. ?Everyone is motivated to do well [in Tasmania], said Launceston?s Bernard Sulzberger. ?It?s pretty important for us and it?s one of the harder NRS races. The team did the recon of the courses last week and it?s a pretty challenging Tour.? Alongside the Apple Isle locals will be former Australian road race national champion Darren Lapthorne, Jonathan Cantwell, 2012 Tour champion Lachlan Norris and reigning under 23 time trial national champion Jordan Kerby. ?Last year I won a stage and I would like to do that again,? said Sulzberger who took out stage four in 2013. ?Obviously I know the courses more than other teams and I hope it will play a part in getting a better result for us. ?Lachlan Norris, Darren Lapthorne and Jai Crawford will be our main guys for the general classification, I think GC is a little bit out of grasp for me with the up-hill individual time trial,? said Sulzberger who claimed overall victory in 2009. Beginning on September 30, the Tour of Tasmania will feature six stages across six days, including an individual time trial to the summit of Mt Wellington. The honour roll includes Richie Porte and Cadel Evans while defending champion Jack Haig is currently in Spain representing Australia at the UCI Road World Championships. With just a handful of events remaining in the NRS, competition is sure to be on from the first stage in the Tour of Tasmania as riders look to stake their claim on the overall series title, or grab an elusive stage. New Zealand?s Joe Cooper (Avanti Racing) overtook teammate Brenton Jones in the overall series rankings at last weekend’s National Capital Tour in Canberra. Cooper now leads the series by just six points to Adelaide?s Tim Roe (Budget Forklifts) and Jones.
