In surprisingly mild conditions, the elite and U23 women got underway with the lure of Australian national colours on the line. At the time check, Katrin Garfoot stamped her domination on the race, going through the turnaround with a 42 second advantage on 4-time winner Shara GILLOW, with Tiffany CROMWELL in third. That was the way it stayed to the finish, with Garfoot winning emphatically with a time of 43 minutes 16 seconds. Shara GILLOW came home 46 seconds in arrears and Cromwell was a further 52 seconds behind. Specialized Women?s Team rider and Tour of Bright winner Kate Perry did a superb ride to run 4th, one the NRS rider will certainly be happy with, given the competition.

1st ? Katrin Garfoot (Orica-AIS) ?I gave it my all out there, I was really suffering by the time I crossed the line. Every year it?s crazy (at the nationals), everyone wants to be the best and everyone wants this jersey. It feels really good, one more thing off the bucket list.?

3rd ? Tiffany CROMWELL (Canyon-SRAM) ?I?ve been quietly confident coming into this week, I?ve sort of had a different approach to previous years, I haven?t done any of the summer racing and have stayed off the radar. New team, new colours, the girls back in Europe were messaging me, so I couldn?t help going out there motivated so the road race is the target, but it?s a bit more of a lottery. I wanted a podium for the time-trial, so I?m kicking goals already.?

1st – Under 23 ? Emily Roper ?Yeah it?s nice to get the first jersey (this year is the first time the U23 women have been presented a jersey). I only decided last minute to enter nationals, nine days ago, a few guys I ride with encouraged me to go down. I didn?t really know how well I was going, so I didn?t have anything to worry about! I knew there was a tough climb just after the halfway mark, so I saved something for that, then once Gracie ELVIN went past me, I just tried to stay with her. It?s my last year of uni (she studies nursing), so I?m going to concentrate on that, maybe do a couple of NRS races.?
