Michaela Parsons aka Mini first shot to the attention of Australian Women?s Cycling at Tour Bright 2014, where the relative newcomer finished an impressive 6th place on GC. The 20-year-old from St Kilda Cycling Club showcased her impressive climbing abilities and also held her own amongst the experienced peloton, impressing team DS Bec Domange with her positioning and comfort within the bunch. ? Michaela comes from an elite sporting background in National level swimming and running, however scoliosis surgery stopped her in her tracks and she was forced to look for an alternative way to expend her high levels of energy. Under the encouragement of her father, she bought a bike and was soon joining him on local bunch rides along Beach Road. Her first race was in March 2014 and she was attracted to the tactical styles of racing Cycling had to offer before targeting Tour of Bright as her first hit out in A grade. ? Team manager Liz Phillipou is excited to have Michaela join her already strong 2015 line up ?Our team was pretty much finalized but after seeing Michaela?s results at Tour of Bright we just couldn?t pass up a rider of that talent? she said. ?We weren?t the only team taking notice and we had a little competition from other NRS teams to secure Michaela?s signature.? ? When asked about her decision making process in selecting a team, Michaela highlighted ?(Specialized Securitor?s) professionalism and positive team morale? as the main factors that got her over the line. ?In my first year of NRS, I wanted to make sure I had the best possible support not only from team staff but also the rider group. Bec and Liz made me feel very reassured that I would be well looked after and I can?t wait to learn from such a talented group of riders.? Parson?s said. ? Michaela will make her debut with Specialized Securitor at Cadel?s Great Ocean Road Race on January 31st 2015 alongside teammates Verita Stewart, Sophie Mackay, Jasmine McMillan and Anna-Leeza Hull. The team?s roster is now complete with Jenelle Crooks, Elizabeth Doueal, Cassie Dodd and Josie Talbot rounding out the team.
