Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Swiss rider, Oliver Zaugg crashed during Tour de Mediterranean ten days ago and broke his finger. A rather unfortunate beginning of the season for the new member of the Danish squad. How’s your finger coming along? ?In the beginning, I wasn’t aware of the big problem with a broken finger. I mean I could still pedal. But now I know that you’re out of the game if you fracture a bone in the finger. It’s simply impossible to brake. Now, it’s been one and a half weeks since the crash and I surely hope my finger is soon fully recovered. Even though, I can still train it’s far from being optimal. It’s much more complicated than you can imagine. I prefer training on the roller inside so I can do some quality training and control my intervals. Outside, the vibrations from going into holes in the road make training very painful!? How did the crash happen? ?Well, already in the morning I felt less than 100% fit so during the race I was in trouble and couldn’t keep up with my teammates in the peloton. Then the classic crash – my front wheel touched another rider’s back wheel and I lost balance and I crashed to the right.? How have the first few months at Saxo-Tinkoff been? ?The first training camp with the team was really nice for me because I found a really friendly and respectful atmosphere along with some old teammates from previous teams. It’s really important for me to be able to socialize with my teammates.? Which races will you be doing this Spring? ?The program is still uncertain but normally, I’d be doing Volta a Catalunya, Gp Indurain, Pais Vasco, Fleche Wallone, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Tour de Romandie, Tour of California and Tour de Suisse,” concludes the 31 year-old climber.
