20 year old Sam Hill has put a run of bad luck behind him by taking the offensive at Australia’s longest one day classic. The Melbourne to Warrnambool is the penultimate round of the Subaru National Road Series, and at 273kms, it is the second longest race in the world after Milan-San Remo. ?Hill attacked just 1km into the event, establishing a 9 man break away that lasted over 200kms. At one stage the breakaway held an 11 minute advantage over the main field, however the gap was quickly narrowed before the hard last hour and a half of racing. On offer for the breakaway were two sprint primes and the King of the Mountains at Camperdown. Hill took the first sprint 110kms in, followed by the KOM in convincing style. He was unchallenged at the second sprint point, meaning he collected both the Sprint and KOM jersey’s for the Melbourne to Warrnambool 2014. Congratulations Sam Hill on a fine ride to finish your season!
