Team UniSA ? Australia Team Line Up Confirmed

The Team UniSA ? Australia line up has been confirmed by Cycling Australia following yesterday?s 2016 Mars Cycling Australia National Road Championships, where local boy Jack Bobridge, Trek-Segafredo took overall honours.

Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the quality of the UniSA-Australia team was testament to the high calibre of cycling talent in Australia.

?The Santos Tour Down Under is thrilled once again to welcome a team of Aussie contenders to compete on the world stage,” he said.

?The team for 2016 includes Steele von Hoff, Neil Van Der Ploeg, Sean Lake, Chris Hamilton, Pat Lane, Lucas Hamilton and Patrick Shaw.

?It will be interesting to see if Steele von Hoff can repeat his 2015 stage win this year.?

Kevin Tabotta, National Performance Director, Cycling Australia said they are happy with team they?ve assembled, as it is a good balance and mix of youth and experience.

?The team provides an exciting opportunity for a couple of brand new talents, like Sean Lake, back to back Grafton to Inverell champion and third at the nation time trial, and also to the two young Victorian Hamilton?s in Chris and Lucas, who dominated in the under 23 road race,? he said.

?Last year?s TDU stage winner (Steele von Hoff) will be looking to replicate this in 2016, while Patrick Shaw and Neil Van Der Ploeg, both have lots of experience.

?Former AIS under 23 scholarship holder Pat Lane has matured over the past couple years into an promising elite talent and his result today, and the way he rode, proved has the ability to match himself with the world?s best.?

University of South Australia Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Allan Evans said the University was proud to support Australia?s future stars of cycling in the Santos Tour Down Under.

?In our 25th birthday year, we are also celebrating our 16th year of support for the Tour,? Prof Evans said.

?As a young and enterprising institution, UniSA is proud to give Australia?s young and upcoming riders the chance to showcase their talent on the international stage.

?The seven riders announced in Team UniSA-Australia?s 2016 team today are no doubt keen to bring it up to the world?s best and we?re delighted to help them fly the flag for Australian cycling.?

The seven rider roster for the 2016 University of South Australia ? Australia team will be managed by Dave Sanders (AUS) and includes:

  • Neil Van Der Ploeg (Victoria / Avanti IsoWhey Sports Cycling Team)
  • Sean Lake (Victoria / Avanti IsoWhey Sports Cycling Team)
