By Sam Young This week saw South Australian riders achieve some great results in the NRS at the Tour of Gippsland, while locally David Fumpson took out the KCC Ron Mitchell Hill Climb. SA Success at Gippsland Local riders can take solace that the riders who have been regularly in the money at local races were also fast enough to beat some of the best in Australia during the Lakes Oil Tour of Gippsland. The highlight was Tim Roe (Budget Forklifts) clinching the overall on the final stage of the tour. On that stage local Commonwealth Games champion Alexander Edmondson (SASI) took the win after a number of strong results throughout the week. Cameron Bayly ( was also prominent, finishing second overall on GC behind Roe after a consistent tour. Meanwhile local team Swiss Wellness didn?t quite get the results, but it wasn?t for a lack of trying. At almost every opportunity they had a rider in the break, and most often it was Chris Harper representing for the team. David Fumpson Fastest up Willunga David Fumpson blasted up the hill to record the fastest time of 8:21:73. Robert Tidswell was the next fastest at 8:42:47, taking out the masters category, while Douglas Beddome was the third quickest on the day in 8:44:20. The fourth fastest rider was an u17 junior Ethan Egglestone who finished in 8:50:56. The fastest woman was Nusha Kerin, who recorded 9:51:17. As a time trial, the event was open to non-licenced riders, two of whom managed to get under the 10 minute mark. They were Tim Pritchard in 9:25:68, and Rob Cerullo, who managed 9:35:27. Road season drawing to a Close The upcoming weekend will see an empty calendar, as the road season winds down. In a fortnight?s time the NCC club championships and the Skinny Lattes Women?s Road race will be held, while criterium racing is on the horizon in just under a month?s time.
