By Sam Young In the early spring the weather starts to get better, temperatures rise, and sometimes the sun peeks out. So, of course, September would see a dearth of racing in SA. Without any local races to report on, this week I?ll be looking at some successes of SA riders abroad, and previewing the upcoming Barossa Classic. SA women representing at the World Champs Tiffany CROMWELL took a fantastic 5th?place in the road race at the World Champs in Spain, sprinting from a reduced group. Her result came off the back of great work by the whole Australian team including another local rider Carlee TAYLOR, who finished the race in 57th?place. Another South Australian racking up some strong results was Alexandra Manly, who was just off the podium in 4th?place in the women?s junior ITT. Manly was also the highest placed Australian in the junior women?s road race, coming 11th. Strong Start for SA riders at Australian Uni Games SA riders got off to a flying start during the Australian University Games this week, in Sydney. Natalie Redmond (Adelaide Uni) won the women?s road race after out-sprinting her breakaway companions to the line. Five riders got up the road half way through the race, and would stay away to the end. In the Men?s race Andre Bemmer (Adelaide Uni) was the highest placed rider in a respectable 8th?place. The Uni Games continue all week with an individual TT, a pairs TT, and a criterium still to be raced. CDCC Barossa Classic this Saturday The Central Districts Cycling Club Barossa Classic will be held this Saturday over a lumpy 104km course. The race features a climb up Sedan Hill, a 4km climb at 6% which tops out less than 10km from the finish line. The Barossa Classic is the last road race before criterium season starts, with the first race to be held next Tuesday the 7th?of October.
