The action will start on Friday 26 April with a 17km time trial that local girl Amy Cure will hope to dominate, as the route forms part of her daily training ride. ?I?m looking forward to the time trial as Ulverstone to Penguin is a main training route of mine, it?s virtually in my backyard,? said Cure, 20. ?I pretty much ride on this route every time I get on my bike so I think it would be really exciting to be able to race on that course.? Mersey Valley Time Trial – Stage one start list? A strong favourite for the time trial stage win is Rebecca Wiasak of the Suzuki/Bontrager team, according to Lisa Jacobs. “It?s hard to go past Bec Wiasak. The course is flat and exposed and will suit her down to the ground. Amy Cure will give her a run for her money though.”   Stage 2 is sure to shake up the General Classification, with the stage taking in no less than nine categorised climbs. The nasty 6.9% gradient just before the finish line will ensure this stage is one by the rider with the strongest legs. Lisa Jacobs is tipping local Gracie Sulzberger to triumph on Saturday, adding “The field for the Mersey Valley Tour this year is the strongest I think I?ve ever seen in an NRS race. On Saturday I?ll be expecting big things from the Holden Cycling combo of Miranda Griffith and Lucy Coldwell ? both love the hills and are in great form at the moment. My tip for the stage win is Grace Sulzberger, who is a local and knows how to take a race by the scruff of the neck.”

If Stage 2 doesn’t shake up GC, then Stage 3 certainly will! Setting out from Ulverstone, the course features 10 climbs, the most brutal being 1 kilometres worth of 12.7% (yes, 12.7%!) gradient. After the previous two days of hard racing, this is certain to buckle a lot of legs. And the reward for making it over the climb? Roughly 35 kilomteres of racing to the finish, which includes some of the exposed time trial course from Stage 1.
