2014 Tour of Tasmania Stage 2 Blog: James Hepburn

By James Hepburnhealth.com.au/search2retain Stage 2 of the Tour of Tasmania got underway in Strathgordon. On the menu was some hills, wind and rain, all the elements that you can get used to in Tassie. Luckily All the riders got to see the course as we had to drive the opposite direction from the start in New Norfolk. It started to rain 15mins before the start. And not the lovely tropical rain I’m used to as a Queenslander but the cold rain no body likes. Still there was a race to be won so we got on with the racing. An aggressive start with a few strong wind gusts and steep hills got things going. A break of 4 left the peloton about 20 km into the race. From there we pretty much rode the Avanti led train train until towards the end of the stage when the break was still out at over 3 minutes. All in all a really calm day which is strange for NRS. Wes Sulzberger held off the peloton for a great win. Health.com.au – search 2 retain riders all finished in the main bunch, 7 of us rubber side down with our young gun Al hitting the deck. Tomorrow the tour will roll on and with our man Paddy “10 men” (yes he is actually that strong) Bevin second on GC we will look to move him up one or maybe even more places by the time the tour finishes on Sunday.
