Like most people I?m a sucker for good ice cream, always have been and always thought I would be.
But hurtling towards 50 and trying the remain as bike-fit as possible, the shocking reality is that regular ice cream is one of those little luxuries that many of us have to go without. Until now.
New Take On An Old Favourite
Late last year I heard about a new, all-natural, coconut-based ice cream alternative that?s 100% vegan as well as being dairy, gluten and fat free.
The Instagram images looked totally lickable and my Facebook feed started showing pictures of some stunningly sensational treats.
The name is CocoWhip and I?m 100% sure you?ll be hearing a lot more about this exciting new product as word gets out.
Ice Cream & Bike Racing – The Perfect Pairing
Then came the exciting news that the nation?s fastest growing cycling team, JML Racing, had paired with CocoWhip as a major sponsor.
The rigours of regular road riding, training and bike racing are well documented.
It?s about blood, sweat and gears – along with sticking to a rigid diet to ensure your best form. After all – garbage in, garbage out.
After hearing the welcome news about CocoWhip and JML Racing I was busting for my first taste.
38.2 Degrees On The Garmin
While on a recent training ride on Sydney?s Northern Beaches I stopped for a breather at Girdlers on The Strand at Dee Why. Stinking hot, the Garmin was reading 38.2 degrees and under the glorious backdrop of the famous beach, it was a very welcome break.
Along with a litre of very cold water and the smoothest skinny flat ever, I enjoyed a cooling CocoWhip.
First Impressions
Described as a vegan, coconut based soft serve that looks and tastes like ice cream, I?ll admit I was a little wary from the outset.
How wrong I was.
My cup of CocoWhip came drizzled with a guilt-free chocolate topping known as ‘Goodtella’, was sprinkled with home-made honeycomb crunch and topped off with a half a dozen fresh raspberries.
It tasted great, was light but filling, and the prefect pick-me-up during a hot day on the bike.
With a hint of coconut flavour, it shares the consistency of ice cream but lightness of sorbet. Yes I paid full price and as you may have guessed, am totally hooked!
Fueled Up And Ready For Segments!
After water, coffee and a CocoWhip I was primed to ride the 30km home – even snaring a few new personal records on Strava along the way!
CocoWhip is available at a growing number of outlets around Australia – latest stores can be found on the website http://cocowhip.com.au/locations/
