By Erdinger Alkoholfrei-DownerEDi Mining Just under 70 riders lined up to take on the 2012 Queensland Metropolitan Road Championships including 6 Erdinger Alkoholfrei ? Downer EDi Mining riders. Trent Carman, Ben Carman, Kristian Juel, Rafael Vainikka and James Szollosi all took the start of the 115km road race for the team which was hosted by the Balmoral Cycling Club in warm conditions. The race started off very aggressive with attacks coming from the word go but no one could get more than a few meters on the field. At the 20km mark of the race the first break of the day went clear featuring James Stretch (TDU) and a Budget Forklifts rider but the duo couldn?t open more than 30 seconds on the rest of the field with Pensar Hawk Racing and Erdinger Alkoholfrei ? Downer EDi Mining swapping off turns and keeping the break in sight. 10kms later Trent Carman (Erdinger Alkoholfrei ? Downer EDi Mining) and Jacob Restall (TDU) jumped across to the two leaders on the road but the break of 4 were shut down very quickly. Only a few kilometres later Team Budget Forklifts took control of the race and set a high pace the split the race in two with Trent, Jimmy and Kristian all making the lead group. The pace for the rest of the race was very fast and almost reached speeds just shy of 90km at one point, making it impossible for any rider to jump off the front of the lead group. Luke Ockerby (Budget Forklifts) took out the small bunch sprint ahead of Peter Spencer (Pensar Hawk Racing) and Corry Edmond with Kristian Juel coming home in 7th place.
