via London 2012 Press Release Three-time world Sprint champion [W:Gregory Bauge] is desperate to begin competition at the London 2012 Olympic Velodrome, saying: ‘The tiger will be released in a few days.’

The 27-year-old Frenchman won the world title for the third time in four years in Melbourne, Australia in April. Bauge, whose Olympic Games will begin with the Team Sprint on Thursday before the print starts on Saturday, said: ‘I’m in a cage. I wait, I train. The tiger will be released in a few days.’ Bauge is the nominated sprinter for France, but will not have to face the Beijing 2008 Olympic champion Chris Hoy, after Jason Kenny won the race to contest the event. Bauge is disappointed with the fact that just one rider or team per nation can compete in each event meaning Hoy misses out, but he believes Kenny’s semi-final defeat of his compatriot at the World Championships swayed the GB selectors. ‘The ideal final would have been the Olympic champion against the world champion,’ Bauge added. ‘(But) after the world championships, it was clear to me it had to be Kenny.’
