Peloton Cafe || Knog Milkman Combo Stack

By Ben Norden – @Ben_Norden

Picture this.  You get home from a hard days yakka with a pain in your gut growing from hunger.  Luckily, the foresight you had from the previous night has paid off, as you reach for last nights leftovers.  As you open the fridge, its with absolute disgust that you find an empty bowl – clearly someone beat you to the nutritious goodness.

So its back on your stead, for a spin to the shops for food.  As you dismount in front of Franks Fruit and Veg, it occurs to you, ’I’ve left that darn bulky bike lock at home!’  Perhaps it was your lack of nutrients that caused you to forget.  Perhaps your sub-conscious mind didn’t want to carry the 10kilo lump of metal?

You’re now faced with that conundrum.  ‘I wonder if Frank will mind me bringing the bike into the shop?’ Or ‘I won’t be long, surely I can race in and out and leave my reliable friend unlocked?’ And ‘But what about that dodgy character I saw earlier – are they still lurking about?’

Enter the Milkman.

No! Not Bob the Milkman, you hunger plagued fool!  The Milkman Combo, by Knog.

Weighing in at a pocket friendly 132g, the Milkman has been designed just for this situation.  The sleek finish comes with a 900mm braided steel cable which is enough to deter that dodgy lurking character at Franks. We got this length of cable around three bikes in one single location i.e. the top tubes.

At just $29.95 AUD, the Milkman is well priced.

With weight and pocket loving dimensions (75x75x20), its small enough to pack in case you want a mid-training coffee.  The Milkman isn’t going to prevent a theft from a serious hoodlum, but it will provide piece of mind during brief moments when your bike is unattended.

Besides the weight and size, another feature is you must know the combination before securing the lock.  This sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised at the number of combination locks that allow you to lock first and do the combination later. With 10,000 unique combinations, you’re sure to keep prospective thieves guessing.

The Milkman was designed to avoid this unfortunate situation.

Should there be future versions, we’d suggest improving the design of the dials.  They can be fiddly and difficult to turn at times.  Particularly if the dials are damp from rain or sweat.  Otherwise its a winner.
