Peloton Cafe || Phoenix Cycling Collective Give Back To Toowoomba Schools

By Andrew Pickering

“School visit… High school visit?”

That was my reaction when I found out why PNX DS Angus and myself had parked at Highfields State Secondary School just outside Toowoomba.

We had a short talk planned with some of their year 8 and 9 students. Only 40-50 of them! Because we all love discussing rego for cyclists, shaved legs, and Lycra to teenagers…

Angus took up the serious race tactics, training and bike maintenance part of our discussion while I answered questions mostly involving how we eat while racing, the crazy crashes, plus some interesting cyclocross and mountain biking!

They loved our bright amazing Avanti Bikes that were custom painted by Simon at Velopaint, and the fresh new Ollo kit was well received too.

To my surprise the students knew quite a lot cycling and were very interested. After making sure they were all set to cheer for PNX at the finish line of Stage One it was time to pack up and head out for a light activation roll with the boys.

Two National Road series events, 10 stages and over a 1000km lie ahead in Queensland.

Time to rest and catch up on some Giro D’Italia action.
