The Oliver’s Real Food Racing Team will be back in action today as the National Capital Tour, the seventh round of the Subaru National Road Series, kicks off in Canberra today. This will be the teams first race back on Australian soil, after Rien Schuurhuis took the overall win at the Tour de Tahiti Nui in French Polynesia 2 weeks ago.
32 year old Dutchman, who lives in Deakin in the A.C.T. took the yellow jersey with just one stage remaining at the weeklong event. Teammate Nick Reddish also picked up a stage win.
2015 has been a breakout year for this team based out of the Hunter region of NSW. 18 year old Ryan Christensen has been a standout for the squad with numerous top 10 finishes in the NRS, and a King of the Mountains jersey at the previous round, The Tour of the King Valley. Despite its Newcastle base, the team has strong ties with the nations capital, with 4 of its riders now residing in Canberra to take advantage of its strong cycling culture.
“The National Capital Tour very much feels like a home race for us.” team manager Sam Layzell says.
“With new Oliver’s Real Food stores just opening in Gundagai and now Goulburn, we will be looking for some strong results in return for the great support we get throughout the year.”
The National Capital Tour begins today with a 7.3km Individual Time Trial at Googong, commencing at 12pm.
