Recently announced in Cycling Australia?s long team for the UCI Road World Championships in Florence this September, Ruth Corset (Pensar SPM) will headline the 2013 Tour of the Murray River when the women?s tour kicks off in Swan Hill next Wednesday, September 4. For the first time in the tour?s 13 year history, the event will encompass a women?s tour alongside the men. Corset, 2012 Subaru National Road Series champion and current series leader, will lead the Pensar SPM trio of recent Subaru NRS King Valley Tour champion Katrin Garfoot and Zoe Watters.? ?I?m feeling pretty confident,? Corset said. ?I?m fairly fit at the moment so I?m looking forward to having another good result.? Known for her climbing abilities, the Tour of the Murray River won?t play into the hands of the Queensland mum of two, however an individual time trial scheduled for day two will be a chance to gain an advantage of the field. ?Because the Tour is so flat I think the time trial will be really important. Hopefully I?m there in the stage otherwise Kat will be because she?s been time trialling really well,? said Corset, who took out the race against the clock at the Tour of the King Valley last weekend. ?Even though there?re no hills we can still make it a hard race. It?s good to have a strong team because we can play different cards and have some fun as well,? she said. The hills of Tuscany may soon beckon, but Corset?s sights are set no further than the Victoria ? New South Wales border. ??I was quite surprised [to be selected for Australia] because I only had two weeks of racing over in Europe, but the Road Worlds course is very hilly and does suit me ? if I?m in the final team I probably will have to go straight over to Europe. ?I?ll just have to wait and see.? The women?s tour consists of five stages over five days and begins in Swan Hill for a fast and furious criterium. It then moves to Cohuna for the time trial before a 92 kilometre road race around the Echuca region on Friday September 6. The weekend will see riders tackle a 69 kilometre road race from Nathalia to Cobram before the Tour concludes on September 8 with a criterium around the streets of Yarrawonga. The 2013 Subaru NRS features 17 individual events across Australia and includes over 75 days of racing. The Tour of the Murray River?will feature on SBS1 at 4pm on Sunday 29 September and again at 5pm Monday 30 September.
