[W:Cameron Meyer] posted the eighth fastest time in Pontevedra, one second behind race leader Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) in the only individual time trial of this year?s Vuelta a Espa?a. The 39.4 kilometer technical course featured climbs, corners, cobbles, descents, hairpin turns and constant undulations. ?It was a really, really good effort by Cam,? said Sports Director Neil Stephens. ?He did a positive time trial for the start. He was controlled during the first section, excelled on the climb and descended well, too. He put time into his rivals on the descent, which for Cam is a victory in itself.?

Cameron Meyer explained that he broke stage 11 into three distinct sections.

?The first part of the stage was the 13 kilometers from the start of the time trial to the bottom of the climb,? he said. ?Then, there was the middle section, which was the 10 kilometer climb. From the top of the climb to the finish was the third part of the stage.? ?My goal was to go out in the first part and, without losing too much time, save some energy for when I hit the long climb,? Meyer continued. ?The climb was the most important part of the time trial. It?s where the race would be won or loss. From there, it was just getting down the descent as quickly as possible without crashing.? When Meyer crossed the line 53:53, he found himself in the hot seat. Compatriot Richie Porte (Sky Procycling) was the first to challenge Meyer, besting him by two seconds. Fredrik Kessiakoff (Astana) would later post an unbeatable 52:36 to win the stage. Rodriguez, one second faster than Meyer, managed to retain his race lead by one second over Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank ? Tinkoff Bank) who finished second on the stage, 17 seconds behind Kessiakoff. ?I?m happy with my ride,? said Meyer. ?I did everything I wanted to do.? Although he is satisfied with his gutsy stage eight breakaway and top ten finish in the time trial, Meyer has unfinished business at the Vuelta. ?I?d like to get in another breakaway somewhere from now until end and really go for a stage win,? he said. ?That?s what the team is here to do in the remaining days of races. I still have a lot of energy and good form left. Hopefully there?s a stage out there for me.?
